Remember the “social” in social media, and keep in mind that you need to interact with your audience, not just advertise your product or service. In an age of over-saturation with ads, your competitors will quickly surpass you if you don’t step up your game.
Share links to valuable content, give credit, make it about someone else because people actually like that. Instead of promoting your organization only, try to appear more human.
Forgetting That Not All Social Networks Are The Same
This is such a common mistake even though it should be clear by now that social media channels are different and should be treated as such. If you have company accounts on several social media networks, you need to tailor a different approach for each one of them.
Your audience is not the same on all social media. And naturally, users of different social media require different content, so sharing the same post on all channels won’t do.
Let’s compare LinkedIn and Instagram, for example. LinkedIn is a business network and not a place for memes and slang, as opposed to the second social media channel. A post with a bunch of hashtags will do good on Instagram but not on LinkedIn or Facebook, for example.
You can go in-depth on LinkedIn and Facebook but keep it short on Twitter, which has a character limit anyway. If you fail to understand this, you’re wasting your efforts.
Posting Inconsistently
Posting countless status updates on Facebook daily is a no go. On the other hand, posting inconsistently is not smart either. You need to find a balance. It’s much better to post once per day than to post 5 times today and then disappear for a week or longer.
