SEO and Getting Your Website Indexed By Google
Getting Indexed By Google –
Several of the most popular search engines rely on crawlers to gather data for their algorithms. It’s not necessary to submit pages that are connected from other search engine indexed pages, as they will be found automatically. Manual submission and human editorial audit were required for both Yahoo! Directory and DMOZ, two of the most popular directories that were shut down in 2014.
Google provides Google Search Console, which allows for the creation and submission of an XML Sitemap feed for free in order to ensure that all pages, especially those that are not searchable by automatically following links, are found. This practice was cancelled in 2009, when Yahoo! stopped offering a paid submission service that assured crawling for a fee per click.
SEO and Search Engine Crawlers
When a search engine crawls a website, it may take into account a variety of factors. The search engines don’t index every page. Whether or not a page is crawled may also depend on its proximity to the site’s root directory.
Today, the majority of Google searches are conducted on a mobile device. It was in November 2016 that Google announced a major shift in the way it crawls websites and started to make their index mobile-first, which means that the mobile version of a specific webpage becomes the starting point for what Google includes in their index. Google updated their crawler’s rendering engine to the latest version of Chromium in May 2019. (74 at the time of the announcement).
Google promised to keep the Chromium rendering engine up to date on a regular basis. Toward the end of 2019, Google began revamping the User-Agent string of their crawler to reflect current Chrome version used by their rendering service. Webmasters needed time to implement their code to respond to specific bot User-Agent strings, so the delay was necessary. Despite Google’s best efforts, they argue that the effect would be negligible.
